Bingham County First in Idaho to Install AlertID System
February 14, 2012- A new program with a proven record for lowering crime is now in Idaho. Residents in Bingham County are the first in the state to have access to a new online police program that can keep them informed in an emergency.
The numbers don’t lie. According to Nevada based AlertID, the crime rate almost always lowers when cities and counties implement their system.
AlertID is a two-way communications device that allows citizens to receive up to the minute information from authorities during an emergency. It also gives users access to an online database where they can view interactive crime stats, and identify where sex-offenders live on a map.
The Blackfoot Police Department is the first to install this program in Idaho. They are followed by other agencies like the Shelley Police and Aberdeen Police Departments and the Bingham County Sherriff’s Office.
Signing up is easy. All you have to do is go to the AlertID webpage, click on the link, fill out the form, which took us about two-minutes, and then you have access to crime alerts on your computer or even a mobile device.
The maps are interactive and easy to use and they pinpoint exactly the location where a crime was reported. The website also allows law enforcement to send alerts to your phone or email which can make a difference during an emergency.
The goal of the program is to inform, empower and educate the public and the formula seems to be working. In Henderson Nevada, violent crimes and property crimes dropped by 6 and 16 percent after they added the system. The Reno area is crediting the system for a staggering 32 percent reduction in crime, less than a year into the program.
The AlertID system is not just limited to reporting crime. It can also be used by law enforcement during severe weather and natural disasters, like the flood Bingham County had in 1997.
February 13, 2012- BLACKFOOT, Idaho -- Law enforcement agencies in the Blackfoot area have teamed up with a website to help you get current information to protect your family and community.
Blackfoot Police Department, Aberdeen Police Department, Shelley Police Department, and Bingham County Sheriff’s Office have partnered with AlertID, which is a website that provides localized information on crime, terrorism, natural disasters and local sex offenders.
The site also allows residents to connect to neighbors, and local as well as federal and state agencies, to exchange information that can help keep their family and community safe, whether the threat is national, local or personal, such as a missing child.
“I would encourage all Blackfoot, Aberdeen, Shelley and Bingham County residents to sign up for this free online service that can truly help keep our neighborhoods safer,” Blackfoot Police Chief David Moore said in a news release Monday. “This is a powerful tool to help residents be more aware of crime and threats in their community, and be more proactive in looking after the safety of their families and their neighbors.” (Read More...)

December 16, 2011- Governor Brian Sandoval and his cabinet leaders will now receive emergency updates about crimes, disasters and emergencies through Alert I.D., the free service that now provides such information to tens of thousands of Nevadans.
"This is a huge advantage for us," said Chief Chris Perry of the Nevada Department of Public Safety. "After the IHOP shooting, the governor approached me and asked how we could get information out more quickly."
Eduardo Sencion, 32, burst into the IHOP restaurant in Carson City on September 6 and shot four people to death. Seven more were injured before Sencion killed himself at the scene. But for a time, authorities thought there was a second gunman on the loose within two miles of the state capitol building and the state DMV headquarters where hundreds of employees and customers were gathered.
"If we had this system in place, we could have let people in those buildings know, so they could lock them down and secure everyone inside," Chief Perry said.
Now, Alert I.D. will provide that service. In case of any emergency or disaster, Gov. Sandoval, his cabinet members and their designated division leaders will instantly receive emails and texts containing details of the incidents.
"These are key people who have to know this critical information," said Keli Wilson, founder of Alert I.D. "It's all about public safety and preventing disasters."
October 12, 2011- After less than one year in service, the free Alert I.D. program is being
credited with helping to lower Washoe County's crime rate by a staggering 32
percent.
"When people are aware, and they have information, they can do great things," said Sheriff Mike Haley.
Statistics show that the crime rate in Nevada has fallen about 10 percent. But authorities say Washoe County's crime rate has fallen further because of citizen involvement and communication with law enforcement officers. And they say programs like Alert I.D. offer both.
"We have tens of thousands of people talking with each other, exchanging alerts, talking with law enforcement," said founder Keli Wilson. "Working together, we are making a difference."
Alert I.D. is a free service provided to residents of Nevada. The company is planning to expand the service across the west and eventually nationwide. Users simply set up a profile, enter any number of addresses for their home, church, school or workplace, and indicate what crime trends they would like to receive information about in those neighborhoods. The Alert I.D. system immediately provides updates about all criminal activity, including sex offenders moving into the neighborhood.
More than 38,000 people in Northern Nevada have signed up for the service, which was recently expanded to southern Nevada. The system is also tied in with the Amber Alert system, Department of Homeland Security and all local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

AlertID founder Keli Wilson said she met with Mark Lunsford, a Florida man whose daughter Jessica, 9, was abducted, raped and murdered by a Tier 3 sex offender who lived across the street.
But Lunsford never knew of the man's background, because authorities in Florida never told the neighbors. He asked Wilson to institute a system that allows Nevadans to find out whether such offenders are living close by so they may protect themselves and their families.
"This is a promise we made, and a promise we kept," said Wilson.
Once an Alert ID user logs into the system and provides an address, the user can see names, pictures and addresses of convicted sex offenders living nearby.

Robert Dorsey, a coordinator at the Northern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center, says the partnership is a logical one.
"The Department of Homeland Security has an initiative set up: "See something, say something," he said. "They also have a suspicious act reporting system, and Alert ID fills that gap at a community level."
Alert ID is a free system that allows residents to enter their home, work or school address and immediately receive criminal activity alerts from incidents in their neighborhoods. They can also communicate directly with neighbors and with law enforcement about what's happening. The system was piloted in Northern Nevada, and is now opening operations in Southern Nevada.
